RED HORSE stands for Rapid Engineering Deployable Heavy Operational Repair Squadron Engineers. Red horse units are the US Air force heavy construction engineers and are similar to the US Navy Seabees and the US Army Construction engineers. The 557th Red Horse Squadron is a 404-person unit capable of rapid response and independent operations in high threat environments worldwide The unit possesses the weapons and equipment necessary to perform their assigned mission and the maintenance capabilities, food service equipment, medical equipment and personnel to operate independently.
